Spirit Airlines, the American ultra low-cost carrier has filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation to begin services Cancun. Once the necessary formalities are completed and government approval is received, schedules and fares will be announced accordingly. Cancun will be the 20th non-stop destination to be served by Spirit Airlines from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Spirit Airlines to fly to Cancun  

The airline operates scheduled flights throughout the Americas as well as the Caribbean and Mexico. It started its operations from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport just over a year ago and ever since is on expansion mode. Spirit is adding nonstop service to five more cities from DFW, including Baltimore/Washington, Houston, Oakland/San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Cancun.
Daily nonstop service between DFW and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport will begin on September 6, 2012.

Twice daily nonstop service between DFW and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport starts on September 20, 2012.
Daily nonstop service between DFW and Oakland International Airport and between DFW and Los Angeles International Airport is slated for April 25, 2013.

Currently, Spirit offers nonstop service to 15 destinations from DFW, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, New York-LaGuardia, Orlando, Phoenix/Mesa, San Diego, Tampa, Toluca/Mexico City, and Portland, Oregon. The additions will make this list go up to 20 destinations.
